Across-the-Board Increases at F-T Texas Sale
Topped by two fillies purchased for $65,000 each by Tom Durant, the Fasig-Tipton Texas summer yearling sale at Lone Star Park Aug. 26 ended with across-the-board increases in all key statistical categories.
Fasig-Tipton reported 97 yearlings grossed $1,255,100 for an average price of $12,939, an increase of 27.1% over the 2012 average of $10,177 when 113 horses grossed $1,150,000. This year’s median of $8,000 represented a 33.3% increase over the $6,000 median a year ago. The 19 horses that went unsold this year was 16.3% of the total through the ring, compared with an RNA rate of 27% last year.
Sharing top billing at the one-day auction were a Birdstone filly consigned by Lane’s End Texas, agent for La Bahia Stud; and a filly from the first crop of grade I winner Discreetly Mine , also consigned by Lane’s End Texas.
The Discreetly Mine filly, an accredited Texas-bred bred by W. S. Farish, is the first foal from the Mineshaft mare Sign Up, a half sister to Certify, winner of the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile Stakes (Eng-I), and to grade I winner Cry and Catch Me.
The Birdstone filly, produced from the Coronado’s Quest mare Golden Sheba, was bred in Kentucky by La Bahia Farm and is from the same female family as $3.2 million-earner and sire Congaree and stakes winner Sangaree .
The sale’s third-highest price of $52,000 was paid by Maggi Moss for an Eddington filly consigned by Inside Move, agent. The filly, bred in Arkansas by McDowell Farm, was produced from the stakes-placed Boston Harbor mare Offshore News, a half sister to graded stakes winner and $754,157-earner Nasty Storm and stakes winner Born Winner.
Inside Move had purchased the filly for $9,000 from the Perone Sales consignment to this year’s Ocala Breeders Sales Co.’s winter mixed sale.
