Comer Cottrell, a former commissioner for the Texas Racing Commission who was famous for the Curly Kit hair care products, has passed away at the age of 82. Cottrell was also a noted philanthropist. His brother Jim Cottrell is a former TTA director who raced the top Texas-bred Jim’s Orbit.

“Comer Cottrell was a true pioneer in the business community and the shining example of Texas’ entrepreneurial spirit,” Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott told the Dallas Morning News. “Through his unmatched philanthropic efforts and inspiring mentorship, Comer Cottrell truly made Texas — and the nation — a better place to call home.”
