 ATB’S IN WEEKEND STAKES
Jim Wessel’s homebred Redatory (Oratory – My Silver Song) is in the field of 11 for today’s $100,000 Clevor Trevor Stakes for 2-year-olds going 7 furlongs at Remington Park.  Trained by Allen Dupuy, the gelding broke his maiden by 2 lengths there on October 7th.  He has odds of 9-2.

TWO DIVISIONS OF TEXAS STALLION STAKES ON TAP FOR SATURDAY
Retama Park will host two divisions of the $65,000 Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes Series for 2-year-olds going 6-furlongs on Saturday, November 4th.

The My Dandy division for colts and geldings is carded as race 6 with a field of seven, led by W. S. Farish’s stakes placed homebred 4-5 favorite Direct Dial (Too Much Bling – Fast Find). Trained by Steve Asmussen, the colt was second in the $150,000 Tremont Stakes at Belmont in June.

At 5-2, Kats Second Silver (Silver City – Red Thread) runs for breeders Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch and is trained by Bret Calhoun. 

Completing the field are Quiet Angliana (Angliana – Bin Quiet), Silver Luke Silver (Too Much Bling – My Lost Silver), Cowboy Bling (Too Much Bling – Frieda Frau), Toldeo Pache (Littleexpectations – Trifolium); Silis (Early Flyer – Royal Soup).

Carded as race 8, there is a field of six going postward in the Darby’s Daughter division for fillies. Calhoun will saddle Douglas Scharbauer’s homebred Howboutthiscowgirl (My Golden Song – Nothinbettertodo), who is the favorite at 9-5.

At 2-1 is Shes Our Fastest (Oratory – Dawali), bred by Eureka Thoroughbred Farm, owned by Mark Norman and Norman Stables LLC, and trained by Scott Gelner.  She won the $50,000 Evangeline Downs Princess Stakes on September 2nd.

Rounding out the field are Western Maid (Intimidator – Ready Light), Miss Hopper (Grasshopper – My Girl Bess), T. P. Right Lane (Eaton’s Gift – Wrenice), and Red Dress (Too Much Bling – Red Cell.

SHRP ANNOUNCES 2018 THOROUGHBRED STAKES SCHEDULE
Sam Houston Race Park’s 24th racing season is set to begin on January 19th and will feature 20 stakes races worth over $1.5 million.

Texas Champions Day is January 27th and includes the Richard King Turf S., the San Jacinto Turf S., the Spirit of Texas S. and the Yellow Rose S., worth $50,000 each. Post time is 6:00pm.

Sunday, January 28th is the Houston Racing Festival, with the $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic (GIII), the $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup (GIII), the $75,000 Frontier Utilities Turf Sprint, and with purses of $50,000 each: the Bara Lass S., Groovy S. and the Houston Distaff. Post time is 12:00pm. 

There are two Arabian stakes on February 3rd and March 3rd with a 6:00pm post time.

Saturday, February 24th marks the return of the MAXXAM Racing Festival featuring the $100,000 MAXXAM Gold Cup (Listed), as well as three $50,000 stakes: the Houston Turf Cup, the Jersey Lilly Turf Cup and the Sam Houston Sprint Cup. Post time is 6:00pm.

Both divisions of the $65,000 Texas Stallion Stakes Series are slated for Saturday, March 17th, with a 6:00pm post time.

Additionally, Sam Houston Race Park will be hosting live thoroughbred racing every Friday, Saturday and, new for 2018, Wednesday afternoon racing from January 19th through March 17th. Tuesdays will be added to the schedule beginning on February 13th.

The track will begin accepting horses on December 12th and the track will be open for training on December 18th.

BREEDERS’ CUP CONNECTIONS
Best of luck to trainer Steve Asmussen, who has Iron Fist in the Dirt Mile and Snapper Sinclair in the Juvenile Turf on Friday and Gun Runner, who is the favorite, in the Classic on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Bret Calhoun has Finley’sluckycharm in the Filly and Mare Sprint, owned by Carl R. Moore Management.
