News and Notes for June 9, 2017

Direct Dial (Too Much Bling – Fast Find) is one of a field of 8 entered in the $150,000 Tremont Stakes for 2-year-olds going 5 ½ furlongs at Belmont Park this afternoon.  Bred and owned by W. S. Farish, the blazing fast colt broke his maiden by an incredible 7 ¾ lengths in a 4 ½ furlong maiden special weight race at Keeneland on April 26th.  Trained by Steve Asmussen, the morning line has him listed at 5/2.

TTA’s Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, June 24th at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. We look forward to having a great buffet, meeting new friends, renewing acquaintances and enjoying some great Texas racing, including the 6th annual renewal of the Lane’s End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes.

During the awards ceremonies, the Texas Champion “Horse of the Year” and the owners and breeders of the champions of each racing division will be honored, along with the recipients of the Allen Bogan Memorial Award for TTA Member of the Year and the T. I. “Pops” Harkins Award for Lifetime Achievement. 

Current Texas Thoroughbred Educational Fund scholarship recipients will be introduced, along with an update on the activities of The Paddock Foundation, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the lifelong welfare of the Thoroughbred horse.

The horses will be off and running and you’re invited to break out another summer of horseracing fun at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg.

The track will feature eight days of live pari-mutuel racing for Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds. Races kick off July 1st and 2nd, and will also be carded for July 15-16, August 12-13 and August 26-27.
