ATB awards in connection with the 2020 Thoroughbred meet at Sam Houston Race
Park should be in the mail by April 14th.
Due to the reduction in wagering, awards generated in March were much lower than usual.
Award amounts are based on the amount of ATB award monies available for the pay period divided by the purse money earned (PME) by accredited Texas-breds finishing 1 – 3 in any race at this track.
Based on this formula, award totals were calculated as follows:
Breeder Awards:
5.07399% of 1st/2nd/3rd PME
Owner Awards: 4.91615% of 1st/2nd/3rd PME
Stallion Awards: 3.18330% of 1st/2nd/3rd PME
For example, an ATB horse is eligible for owner, breeder and stallion owner awards for earning $10,000 in an open company race:
Breeder Award = $507.39
Regular Owner Award = $491.61
Stallion Owner Award = $318.33
Owner Bonus (Open Company) = $2,184.65
Total Awards = $3,501.98
The total amount of awards paid out for Owner, Breeder and Stallion Owner Awards for this period of racing at Sam Houston Race Park is $224,846.73. By law, 40% ($89,938.69) is paid for Breeders Awards, 40% ($89,938.69) is paid for Owners Awards and 20% ($44,969.35) for Stallion Owner Awards.
Also, if your horse placed first, second or third in an open company race during this meet, you will receive an Owner’s Bonus award totaling 21.84652% of purse money earned. The first 25% of total ATB Awards is allocated to the Owner Bonus Fund, which equates to $108,282.25 for this meet.

TEXAS SUMMER
YEARLING SALE TO INCLUDE HORSES OF RACING AGE SESSION
The Texas Thoroughbred Association and Lone Star Park have announced that the
upcoming Texas Summer Yearling Sale on August 24 will now include a horses of
racing age session in lieu of having broodmares and weanlings.
For this year only, the mixed session will only be open to 2-year-olds and older horses of racing age. The change is due to the cancellation of the Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, which could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consignment forms will be in the mail early next week and are also available at ttasales.com.
