Update on the Retama Park Turf Course
(Selma, Texas – Wednesday, September 4, 2013) – Retama Park will start its Fall Thoroughbred meet with the rail out, and the track will over seed in late September with rye grass. Turf races have been scheduled to run lightly during the first two weeks of the meet – about one per day to give the rye a chance to grow.
Starting with weeks three and four, the turf races that are lost will be picked up at about one race per day. After week five, Retama will move the rail back in for the El Joven and La Senorita Stakes in week six. This should give everyone the best shot for a pristine course for Retama’s premier stakes.
The management team at Retama is hoping that the rye grass will ensure the ability for races to be run on the turf course through the end of the meet.
