News and Notes for July 5, 2019

Roy Cobb’s homebred Mr Money Bags (Silver City – Miss Photogenic) will compete today in a field of 12 for the $250,000 Iowa Derby at a distance of a mile and a sixteenth.  Trained by Mike Neatherlin, Mr Money Bags has yet to run past a mile, but he picked up an 11 1/2-length win June 1 after leading every step of the Texas Stallion Stymie Division Stakes at Lone Star Park. That effort was a big rebound from the May 4 Pat Day Mile Stakes in which he finished last with a broken rein.

The 3-year-old gelding is out of Miss Photogenic, a homebred for Herman and Mary Motley, who was named 2001 Texas Champion 3-Year-Old Filly.  Mr Money Bags is the top earner for his sire, Silver City, who previously stood at Valor Farm.

The morning line has Mr Money Bags listed at 6-1.

Saturday marks the return of live racing to Gillespie County Fair in Fredericksburg, with 10 races carded.

Race 1 is a 5 ½ furlong allowance race with three Accredited Texas-breds: 9-5 favorite Dees Loca Motion, My Anthony, and Zmor Aristocat.  The 4th race is a 6-furlong claimer with three Accredited-breds in a field of 7: Don’t Blame Dexter, Jamars Golddigger and Shakemygrass.

Sunday has an 8-race card starting with an 870-yard mixed claiming race in which there are two Thoroughbreds, including Accredited Texas-bred Expect Royal.

The 3rd race is a 5 1/2- furlong claimer with P Millers Clock as the lone Accredited Texas-bred.

Post time for both days is 1pm.

Good luck to all!

NOTES: Make plans to attend Roses to Ribbons at Lone Star Park on Saturday, July 13th…The Highlander Training Center Assault Stakes, Valor Farm Stakes, and both divisions of the Texas Thoroughbred Sales Futurity are set for Sunday, July 14th at Lone Star.
