Tony Varvares, 84, of Cypress, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2016. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a member of AHEPA. A native Houstonian and entrepreneur, Tony loved deer hunting, football, basketball, auto racing, baseball, and most of all, horse racing. He was also a local cattle rancher for many years and an avid animal lover.
Tony was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Marlene Mauch Varvares; his parents, Nick and Kleanthe Varvares; and his younger brother, Arthur Varvares. He is survived by his sister, Irene Caridas, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
During this difficult journey, Salli, Manny, Irene and Dorthy stood by him to the very end. We want to thank all the doctors and nurses for all the countless hours of special care Tony received. Many thanks to the family and friends who supported us with the numerous visits and phone calls.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd., Houston, TX 77006.
